Looking to get a fast start in their game against visiting Los Angeles City College on Wednesday, the Cerritos College men's basketball team looked to sophomore Everett May (Los Alamitos HS). The sophomore knocked down a trio of three-pointers in the first five minutes of the game, as the Falcons (8-9) went on to a 77-47 win. The South Coast Conference crossover meeting snapped a skid where Cerritos had dropped three of four games. They close out their crossover schedule on Friday at 5:00 p.m. when they travel to Rio Hondo College.

The quick nine points by May helped the Falcons jump out to an 11-3 lead, while the advantage became 21-5 after a three-pointer from freshman Marcel Hayes (Long Beach Poly HS) with 11:27 left in the first half. The lead extended to 15 points three times in the first half, as the team took a 40-24 lead into halftime.

It was all Cerritos in the second half, as well, as they drained seven more shots from long distance and finished the night with 11 three-pointers. Freshman Dillon Botts (Mayfair HS) hit a trio of three pointers in the second half, with May adding two more for a team-high 17 points. As a team. the Falcons shot better from three-point range (39.3%) compared to 37.5% on all their field goals.

Along with his 17 points, May added four rebounds and two assists, with Hays contributing 13 points and six rebounds off the bench. Botts posted 12 points and a season-high seven rebounds, with sophomore Eric Clark (Cerritos HS) pulling down a team-high 14 caroms. Cerritos finished the game with 60 rebounds, with 28 of them coming on the offensive end of the court. 

Sophomore Cameron McCoy (Taft HS) and freshman Darron Henry (Long Beach Poly HS) each finished with eight points and combined for 11 rebounds, while Henry dished out five assists. As for sophomore Miles Ceballos (Crossroads HS/Ventura College), he checked in with seven points, six rebounds and four assists.
