M. Basketball: Cerritos cruises to eighth straight win

On Friday, the Cerritos College men's basketball team cruised to their eighth straight win, as they handed host El Camino College a 75-58 setback. With the win, the Falcons are now 15-9 overall and sit atop the South Coast Conference South Division with a 6-0 mark. Next Wednesday at 5:00 p.m., the team will travel to Compton College for another divisional game.

Once the team took an early 6-4 lead, they team never trailed after that. Five consecutive points from freshman guard Darron Henry (Long Beach Poly HS) helped Cerritos open a 17-8 lead, while a pair of free throws from sophomore Everett May (Los Alamitos HS) extended the lead to 21-10. A 7-0 run in the first half put the Falcons in front, 30-17 after the Warriors closed to within 23-17. Cerritos took a 34-24 lead into intermission.

A pair of buckets from freshman Dillon Botts (Long Beach Poly HS) to start the second half, followed by a May layup made it a 40-24 game. The Falcons would open up a 25-point lead (67-42) after sophomore Miles Ceballos (Crossroads HS/Ventura College) knocked down a three-pointer.

Sophomore Cameron McCoy (Taft HS) could go on to lead the Falcons with 13 points off the bench to go along with his six rebounds, while Botts checked in with 12 points and four steals. Although the team shot only 41.1% from the field, they out-rebounded El Camino, 50-29, with 23 of those board coming on the offensive end.

Henry (nine points, four assists), Ceballos (seven points, 10 rebounds, six assists) and May (seven points, three rebounds) all played well for the Falcons. Off the bench, freshman Jordun Willard (Paramount HS) accounted for seven points and nine rebounds, while sophomore Taeo Thomas (Verbum Dei HS) produced eight points.
