Cerritos College freshman decathlete Bryce Pearson (Bellflower HS) was the only Falcon track and field athlete to compete on the first day of the CCCAA State Championships. After the first five events at Mt. San Antonio College, Pearson has compiled 3389 points and sits in fourth place. The final five events will take place on Saturday. His point total has him 304 points behind Max Daniels of Mt. San Antonio, who sits in first place. Just 83 points separates second place from fourth place after five events. Pearson opened his day by collecting the most points in any of the events, as he scored 806 points with his time of 11.25 in the 100 meters. It was the fourth fastest time of the 12 competitors. He bookended that performance with the fastest time in the 400 meters, with a 788-point time of 50.58. Pearson also recorded the fourth best long jump of 6.52 meters (702 points) and fifth best high jump at 1.79 meters, which earned his 619 points. The lowest scoring event for Pearson was the shot put, as he turned in the ninth best distance of 9.80 meters, good for 474 points. Photos by Daryl Peterson
