The Cerritos College men's track and field team held off Long Beach City College to come in second place at the South Coast Conference Championships on Saturday. Competing at El Camino College, the Falcons finished with 114 team points, which was just ahead of the third place Vikings, who had 108 team points. Next up for those that qualified will be the Southern California Prelims, which will take place next Saturday at Moorpark College.

Relays and throws highlighted the championships for the Falcons. In the hammer, freshman Micah Norfles (Marina HS) captured first place with his distance of 43.33 meters, which came on his fourth attempt. He was joined by freshman Casanova Ah-Fook (Warren HS), who posted a distance of 35.85 to earn a third place finish. The win by Norfles was by almost four meters, or 12 1/2 feet farther than the second place finisher. It was Ah-Fook that bested all competitors in the discus, as his throw of 43.28 meters earned him a first place finish. Norfles was a distant third, with a top throw of 39.46 meters. The duo accounted for 42 of the points for Cerritos.

In the 1600-meter relay, the foursome of Bryce Pearson (Bellflower HS), Jaheim Williams (Compton HS), Caleb Dunomes (Long Beach Poly HS) and Colby Owens (Milford Mill Academy, MD HS) turned in a second place time of 3:21.41, while it was a third place finish for the 400-meter relay team. That quartet consited of LaVelle Sowell (Carson HS), Williams, Owens and Jordan Miller (Santa Monica HS) and they posted a time of 42.54.
