M. Track & Field: Falcons turn in several strong results

Competing against mainly four-year schools at the Occidental Invitational on Saturday, the Cerritos College men's track and field team turned in some strong results. The Falcons won a relay race and took second in another. The team will take a week off before they compete in the Rafer Johnson & Jackie Joyner Kersey Invitational at UCLA on March 26.

In the 400-yard relay, the quartet of LaVelle Sowell, Jaheim Williams, Gary Morrow and Jordan Miller turned in the fastest time of the day with a clocking of 42.40. They beat out five other four-year schools before the next community college team finished the race. The 1600-meter relay foursome of Miller, John Covarrubias, Jemar Armstrong and Williams posted a second place time of 3:27.18 and were only beaten by Champman University.

In the 100 meters, Sowell recorded the fifth fastest time out of 56 entries with a clocking of 10.95, with Williams in ninth place at 11.20. In the 400 meters Colby Owens placed sixth at 50.04.

The field events saw Alan Tabales come in first place in the high jump when he cleared 1.95 meters, while freshman thrower Micah Norfles turning in a sixth place finish in the hammer throw with a distance of 39.52 meters.
