Cerritos College freshman Alexus Dalton (Long Beach Poly HS) set a new school record in her first collegiate heptathlon, as she compiled 4799 points at the Mt. SAC Combined Events Challenge over the weekend. Dalton eclipsed the old record of 4499 points that Jacqueline Taylor set in the state championships in 2006. Also competing in the seven-event heptathlon was sophomore Angel Sifuentes (Central Union HS), who came in second place overall with 3960 points.

Dalton came in first place in five of the events, while Sifuentes finished in first place in the other two. The biggest point advantage for Dalton was her clearance of 1.69 meters in the high jump, which was the second best in school history and earned her 842 points. Sifuentes, who came in second place, earned 632 points with a jump of 1.51 meters. Dalton also won the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.60 (745 points), 100-meter HH in 14.95 (848 points), shot put at 10.70 meters (575 points) and the long jump with a leap of 5.49 meters, which earned her 697 points.

Sifuentes, the defending state champion and school record holder in the javelin, easily won that event with a throw of 38.73 meters, which amassed 643 points, while she also won the 800 meters in a time of 2:36.06, which garnered 619 points. In the events she didn't win, Sifuentes came in second place behind Dalton.
