W. Track: Cerritos dominates field events in first meet

It's become a long-standing tradition that the Cerritos College women's track and field team has great depth in the field events and the first meet of the season was no different. While competing at the Mt. San Antonio Season Opener, the Falcons won five of the six field events in which they competed, while placing second in the one event they didn't win. In the running events, Cerritos added one first place and two second place finishes. The Falcons will now host the Cerritos Invitational this weekend.

Sophomore Tuki Sauvao (Artesia HS) won the discus (36.95 meters) and javelin (40.83 meters), while her toss of 11.90 meters in the shot put earned her a second place finish. As a team, the Falcons had multiple finishers in the top five of each event they competed, while freshman Alexus Dalton (Long Beach Poly HS) won the long jump at 5.15 meters, sophomore Justina Cummings (Westchester HS) captured the triple jump (10.39 meters) and freshman Dorienne Ordaz (Bravo HS) won the hammer with a toss of 44.24 meters.

In the shot put, Sauvao was joined by sophomore Tiffany Gray (El Dorado HS) in third place at 11.17 meters, while sophomores Larrisha Fields (Lakewood HS) and Angel Sifuentes (Central Union HS) tied for fourth place at 10.52 meters. Fields also came in second place in the hammer (43.01 meters) and third in the javelin (30.53 meters), with freshman Kierra Miller (Carson HS) coming in second in the long jump (4.99 meters) and Sifuentes in third at 4.93 meters. Gray was fifth in the discus (31.89 meters), with sophomore Aisha Diakite (El Rancho HS) earning a fifth place in the hammer at 42.00 meters, and freshman Kelly Magana (Cantwell HS) taking fifth at 29.06 meters in the javelin.

In the running events, Dalton won the 100-meter high hurdles with a time of 15.49, with Cummings coming in second place in the 400 meters at 1:02.12. Sophomore Khadijah Hall (Gahr HS) posted a time of 27.38 to come in fifth place in the 200 meters, with sophomore Lakisha McGowen (Lynwood HS) coming in sixth place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.41. Sophomore La China Bellamy (Narbonne HS/ECC Compton Center) took fifth in the 400-meter IH with a clocking of 1:13.81, while the 1600-meter relay team of Sifuentes, Dalton, Hall and Cummings was timed in 4:08.89 to take second place.
