Last year, Cerritos College women's track and field athlete Angel Sifuentes (Central Union HS) set a school record when she won the state championship in the javelin. On Saturday in the Southern California Prelims at Antelope Valley, Sifuentes eclipsed her old record of 42.27 meters with a throw that traveled 43.57 meters to win the event. She was joined by sophomore Tuki Sauvao (Artesia HS), who came in third place with a toss of 41.93, which improves her third best distance in school history, while freshman Kelly Magana (Cantwell HS) posted a distance of 36.74 to come in fourth place.

Those three will be joined by a large contingent of Falcons that have advanced to the Southern California Championships that will be held at Antelope Valley College next Saturday.

Freshman Alexus Dalton (Long Beach Poly HS), who has already won the SoCal championship in the heptathlon, recorded the second best long jump in school history with a distance of 6.04 meters and won the event. Sophomore Erin Reid (Long Beach Poly HS) matched her career best distance of 5.64, which is listed as the fifth best distance in school history. As for Dalton, she was part of a seven-way tie for first place in the high jump and 1.58 meters, which also included sophomore teammate Nkechi Odili-Obi (Crenshaw HS/Cal State Dominguez Hills). Additionally, Dalton won the 100-meter high hurdles in a time of 14.82.

Freshman Kierra Miller (Carson HS) posted a second place distance of 11.80 meters in the triple jump, with sophomore Justina Cummings (Westchester HS) taking seventh at 10.86 meters. In the throwing events, Falcons had 10 finishes in the top 10 places of the four events. Sophomore Tiffany Gray (El Dorado HS) placed third in the shot put (12.69 meters), with Sauvao coming in fourth place at 12.44 meters, while the two took fourth (Gray; 37.45 meters) and sixth (Sauvao; 36.78 meters) in the discus. In the hammer, freshman Dorienne Ordaz (Bravo HS), sophomore Carissa English (Marina HS) and sophomore Aisha Diakite (El Rancho HS) finished in third through fifth places, respectively.

Advancing to next weekend in running events included Reid in the 100 meters after she placed fourth in a time of 12.47, while freshman Maira Solis (Roosevelt HS) recorded a time of 5:00.07 to come in eighth place in the 1500 meters. A final was held in the 10,000 meters and freshman Karina Sanchez (Warren HS) posted a fifth place time of 40:20.59. Sophomore Amber Greer (Palisades HS/ECC Compton Center) placed fifth in the 400-meter IH in 1:05.50, with the 400-meter relay team coming in sixth place at 48.95.
