Five finals were held during the South Coast Conference women's track and field prelims at Mt. San Antonio College on Tuesday. In four of the five finals, Cerritos College took both first and second place, which helped them jump out to a big early lead. The Falcons have amassed 127 team points, while the host Mounties are a distant second place with 61 points. The remaining 11 championship events will take place on Friday at Mt. SAC, with Cerritos advancing a total of 32 entries.

As they have for the last  10 years, the throws events have provided Cerritos with points in bunches, and this year is no different. The finals for both the hammer and javelin were held and the Falcons placed in six of the top seven places in the hammer and six of the top eight in the javelin. Sophomore Carissa English (Marina HS) recorded the fifth best hammer throw in school history with a distance of 47.06 meters, which bested the old fifth best throw, which was set earlier in the season by freshman Dorienne Ordaz (Bravo HS), who came in second place in Tuesday with a toss that traveled 46.50 meters. Sophomore Aisha Diakite (El Rancho HS) was in fourth place at 45.82 meters, with sophomores Larrisha Fields (Lakewood HS; 44.66 meters), Veronica Sosa (Warren HS; 40.20 meters) and Youstina Makary (Warren HS; 37.88 meters) finishing fifth through eighth, respectively.

Defending javelin state champion Angel Sifuentes (Central Union HS) won the conference title with a throw of 40.35 meters, while sophomore teammate Tuki Sauvao (Artesia HS) came in second place with a distance of 39.43 meters. The next three placers were also Falcons, with freshman Kelly Magana (Cantwell HS) coming in third at 35.81 meters, Ordaz taking fourth at 34.69, with freshman Alexus Dalton (Long Beach Poly HS) coming in fifth place with a throw of 33.47 meters.

In the finals of the triple jump, freshman Kierra Miller (Carson HS) recorded the third longest distance in Cerritos history, as she won the event with a leap of 11.87 meters, while sophomore Justina Cummings (Westchester HS) was in second place at 11.42 meters. Sophomore Amber Greer (Palisades HS/ECC Compton Center HS) finished in fifth place with a jump of 10.64 meters. In the other final that was won by the Falcons, freshman Amineh Beltran (Warren HS) posted the fourth fastest 3000-meter steeplechase time with a clocking of 11:52.90. Freshman teammate Patricia Hurley (Mark Keppel HS) finished in second place at 12:05.20. In the 10,000 meters, freshman Karina Sanchez (Warren HS) placed a solid second with a time of 40:17.03.
