On Friday, the Cerritos College women's track and field team competed in a rare team dual meet and posted an 82-71 win over South Coast Conference rival Mt. San Antonio. The Falcons, who will host the Cerritos Open on February 23-24, won nine of the 18 events, including seven of the eight field events, to come up with the win.
A pair of athletes scored points for Cerritos in three events, as sophomores Juanita Webster (Redlands HS) and Crystal Rodriguez (El Rancho HS) each won two events on the day. Webster led a trio of Falcons to score points in the 100-meter HH with a time of 14.59, with sophomores Skylin Harbin (Bishop Alemany/College of the Canyons) and Brandy Navarro (Montebello HS) taking second and third place with respective times of 14.78 and 15.39. Webster also won the triple jump with a distance of 11.70 meters, with sophomore Miranda Valentin (Bellflower HS) earning a second place leap of 10.58 meters.
As for Rodriguez, she won the discus with a throw of 34.75 meters, with freshman Isabella Kress (Ventura HS) taking third place at 31.44 meters, while Rodriguez also finished in first place in the hammer with a toss of 40.91 meters. Freshman Amber Hart (Narbonne HS), who won the shot put at 12.26 meters, placed second in the hammer at 39.24 meters.
The Falcons also swept the team points in the javelin, with freshman Mystasia Alexander (Lynwood HS) winning the event with a throw of 39.89 meters, with Rodriguez (34.79 meters) and Webster (34.33 meters) in second and third places, respectively. Cerritos also swept the high jump, as freshman Jelani Minix (Carson HS) cleared 1.65 meters to come in first place, with sophomore Breanna Curry (University HS) taking second place at 1.60 meters and freshman Davina Pham (Fountain Valley HS) posting a third place height of 1.55 meters.
Curry also won the long jump with a distance of 5.29 meters, with the duo of sophomore Amanda Salgado (El Rancho HS) and freshman Michelle Eschenbacher (Beaverton, MI HS) taking second and third place in the pole vault when they cleared 2.65 meters and 2.20 meters, respectivley.
In running events, Harbin win the 400-meter IH with a time of 1:04.84, while freshman Stephanie Anguiano (El Rancho HS) earned second place when she finished in 1:05.05. Freshman Rebecca Harris (Buena Park HS) picked up a pair of second place finishes in the 800 meters (2:23.06) and 1500 meters (4:58.26). Navarro recorded a second place time of 26.39 in the 200 meters, with sophomore Adriana Velasco (Downey HS) coming in second place in the 3000 meters with a clocking of 11:07.14.
