W. Track & Field: Aztec Invitational nets two first place finishes

On the first day of the Aztec Invitational at San Diego State University, the Cerritos College women's track and field team won one relay race and one field event. Additionally, the Falcons added three second place finishes and four third place showings.

In the 400-meter relay, Cerritos posted a first place time of 47.32 and were comprised of sophomore Lilian Ebanks (Valencia HS), freshman Kymberlynn Jackson (University Prep HS), sophomore Brandy Navarro (Montebello HS) and sophomore Meka Story (Gahr HS). In the 400 meters, sophomore Breanna Curry (University HS) checked in with a second place time at 56.09.

Most of the Falcons success came in the field events, as they posted the top three finishes in the triple jump. Led by freshman Jelani Minix (Carson HS), who won the event when she jumped 10.82 meters on her last attempt, Cerritos also saw sophomore Miranda Valentin (Bellflower HS) come in second place at 10.60 meters. On her final attempt, Ebanks recorded a distance of 10.59 meters to come in third place. The duo of Curry and sophomore Juanita Webster (Redlands HS) tied for third place in the high jump when they cleared 1.66 meters.

Curry also competed in the long jump and finished in third place at 5.32 meters. In the throwing events, sophomore Crystal Rodriguez (El Rancho HS) posted a distance of 37.32 meters to finish in third place, with freshman Amber Hart (Narbonne HS) and Ailinisilose Williams (Paramount HS) both turning in sixth place finishes. Hart competed in the shot put and her best throw of 12.62 put her in sixth, while Williams had a discus throw of 42.62 meters, good for her sixth place finish.
