W. Track & Field: Team excels at Cal State LA

At the Cal State Los Angeles Invitational over the weekend, the Cerritos College women's track and field team excelled in numerous events. The Falcons turned in 24 top 10 finishes at the invitational, which included winning three events. Next weekend, the team will be split up, with some competing at the Ben Brown Invitational at Cal State Fullerton and others at the Occidental Invitational.

Cerritos posted some of their best results in the field events, which included first place finishes for both Amber Hart (Narbonne HS) in the shot put and Ailinisilose Williams (Paramount HS) in the discus. All of the throwing events were held at Falcon Stadium. Hart recorded a shot put of 13.23 meters in her final attempt, with sophomore Crystal Rodriguez (El Rancho HS) placing second with a distance of 11.74 meters. As for Williams, who also came in seventh place in the shot put (11.24 meters), her discus distance of 39.12 meters came on her first attempt, with freshman Mystasia Alexander (Lynwood HS) a close second place at 38.38 meters.

Rodriguez also finished in third place in the hammer with a throw of 44.92 and was only bested by two unattached entires, while her discus throw of 33.04 meters put her in eighth place. Freshman Sela Lotulelei (Paramount HS) earned a seventh place in the discus (33.91 meters), 10th place finish in the hammer (35.99 meters) and 13th place in the shot put (10.25 meters).

Sophomore Juanita Webster (Redlands HS) finished second in the long jump with a leap of 5.55 meters, while her triple jump of 11.75 meters put her in third place. Sophomore teammate Lilian Ebanks (Valencia HS) checked in with a third place finish in the long jump with a distance of 5.54 meters, while Webster also competed in the 100-meter HH and her time of 14.43 put her in second place. Also running the 100-meter HH, sophomore Skylin Harbin (Bishop Alemany HS/College of the Canyons) was close behind and finished in third place with a time of 14.88.

Sophomore sprinter Meka Story (Gahr HS) ran a 12.47 in the 100 meters to come in seventh place out of 59 entries, with sophomore Adriana Velasco (Downey HS) coming in eighth place in the 800 meters with a time of 2:23.47. In the 400-meter IH, sophomore Breanna Curry (University HS) turned in a second place time of 1:04.30, with Harbin coming in third place in the 400-meter IH with her time of 1:06.24.
