It may have been their first meet of the season, but the Cerritos College women's track and field team was in mid-season form. The Falcons, who have won the last two CCCAA State Championships, and six in the last eight years, won nine events at the South Coast Conference Opener at El Camino College on Friday. The team will host the Cerritos Open next Thursday and Friday.

A trio of athletes won two events each, led by returning state heptathlon champion Juanita Webster (Redlands HS). She posted a blazing time of 14.63 to win the 100-meter HH, as the Falcons had three of the top four finishers. Webster just missed matching her personal best height in the high jump, as she easily defeated the field when she cleared 1.67 meters. The duo of freshmen Davina Pham (Fountain Valley HS) and Jelani Minix (Carson HS) tied for second place at 1.50 meters. The 400-meter relay team also came in first place when they recorded a time of 4:02.71.

Sophomore Breanna Curry (University HS) won the 400 meters in a time of 57.88, while her long jump of 5.68 meters edged out Webster, who came in second place at 5.33 meters. Freshman thrower Amber Hart (Narbonne HS) won the shot put with a distance of 12.13 meters, while her hammer throw of 37.82 also earned her a first place. Also coming in first place on the day were Minix in the triple jump at 10.72 meters, while freshman Mystasia Alexander (Lynwood HS) picked up a first place in the discus at 39.08 meters. Alexander also finished second in the javelin (35.27 meters) and third in the shot put (10.41 meters).

In the 200 meters, sophomore Skylin Harbin (Bishop Alemany HS/College of the Canyons) took fourth place when she was clocked in 27.11, while sophomore Meka Story (Gahr HS) turned in a fifth place time in the 400 meters at 1:08.11. Freshmen Michaela Banyi (Valencia HS) recorded a third place time in the 110-meter HH at 16.78, with freshman teammate Amani Briggs (Lakewood HS) right behind in 16.79, good for fourth place.

Distance runners Adriana Velasco (Downey HS) and Rebecca Harris (Buena Park HS) finished in third (11:08.30) and fifth (11:22.21) places, respectively in the 3000 meters, while a quartet of Falcons tied for fourth place in the high jump with a height of 1.42 meters.
