Continuing to improve each time she competes in the heptathlon, Cerritos College sophomore Juanita Webster (Redlands HS) won the Southern California Heptathlon Championship for the second year in a row and set a school record along the way. She is also the defending CCCAA State Champion and will defend her title at American River College on May 19-20. Over the course of the two-day, seven-event championships, the Falcons had three of the top four finishers, led by Webster and her school record 5471 points, which breaks the standard she set earlier in the year of 5399 points.

The Falcons represented eight of the 17 entries, with sophomore Breanna Curry (University HS) finishing in third place with 4591 points, and freshman Michaela Banyi (Valencia HS) compiling 4415 points, good for fourth place. Webster beat second place Jasmine Hall of College of the Canyons by 767 points, who won the SoCal Championship back in 2014.

The individual finishes by the Falcons gives them 23 team points toward defending their Southern California Championship.

Webster held a 287-point lead after the first four events on Tuesday, and pulled away with her dominant long jump of 5.58 meters, which earned her 723 points. That was 174 points more than the closest competition and almost 200 more points than Hall. She closed out the championship with her 800 meter time of 2:23.13, a personal best time.

On the first day, Webster improved on her second best high jump in school history when she cleared 1.75 meters, while her javelin throw of 41.32 meters put her fifth on the school's all-time list.

Of the seven events, Webster came in first place in five of them - 100-meter HH (13.99; 980 points), high jump (1.75 meters; 916), long jump (5.58 meters; 723), javelin (41.32 meters; 693) and 800 meters (2:23.13; 781). Curry posted four second place finishes - high jump (1.63 meters; 771), 200 meters (25.59; 833), long jump (5.06 meters; 576) and 800 meters (2:26.21; 741) - while Banyi had a second place in the shot put (10.47 meters; 560) and finished third in the 800 meters (2:29.97; 719).

Also competing for the Falcons were freshman Amani Briggs (Lakewood HS), who placed seventh with 4081 points, sophomore Suyan Carcedo (California HS), who took 10th place with 3745 points; sophomore Giselle Burgos (El Rancho HS), who came in 11th place with 3692 points, sophomore Brandy Navarro (Montebello HS), who placed 14th with 3495 and freshman Davina Pham (Fountain Valley HS), who took 16th place with 3297 points. Last season, Burgos qualified for the CCCAA State Championships after placing fourth in the Southern California Championships.

Over the course of the two days, Carcedo recorded the fourth best shot put (9.78 meters; 515 points), with Briggs earning the fifth best 495 points with her javelin of 30.96 meters. In the 800 meters, Burgos finished fifth overall in a time of 2:30.45, good for 687 points.
