As the lone community college competing at the UNLV Invitational on Saturday, the Cerritos College women's track and field team did extremely well. In addition to six top five finishes, including one first place, a school record also fell. Next week, they will compete against more four-year schools, as they take part in the Aztec Invitational at San Diego State University.

In the javelin, freshman Mystasia Alexander (Lynwood HS) broke the four-year old record of 42.57 meters set by Angel Sifuentes by turning in a distance of 43.68 meters. She finished second in the competition and trailed only Fresno State University's Vanja Spaic, who won the event with a throw that went 46.42 meters. Sophomore Crystal Rodriguez (El Rancho HS) placed seventh at 37.83 meters.

One day after setting a new school record in the heptathlon, sophomore Juanita Webster (Redlands HS) won the triple jump with a distance of 11.99 meters. She was joined in the event by sophomore Lilian Ebanks (Valencia HS), who took fourth place at 10.88 meters, while freshman Jelani Minix (Carson HS) turned in a distance of 10.53 meters, which put her in seventh place. Ebanks also competed in the long jump and finished in third place with a jump of 5.54 meters. Tying for ninth place in the high jump at 1.55 meters were Minix and freshman Davina Pham (Fountain Valley HS).

Sophomore Skylin Harbin (Bishop Alemany HS/College of the Canyons) recorded the fifth best 100-meter HH time in school history when she was clocked in 14.46, which earned her a fifth place on the day. Finishing in seventh place were sophomore Breanna Curry (University HS) in the 400 meters (57.09) and freshman Rebecca Harris (Buena Park HS) in the 800 meters (2:22.08). Freshman thrower Ailinisilose Williams (Paramount HS) placed ninth in the shot put (11.68 meters)and 10th in the discus at 40.16 meters.
