Facing teams within the South Coast Conference, the Cerritos College men's track and field team turned in some good marks on Friday in the Mt. San Antonio Opener. The Falcons will host the Cerritos Open at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday in their next competition of the young season.

The team experienced the majority of their success in the field events, as the team posted a first place, two second places and a third place. Sophomore Adam Aguirre (Cantwell HS) led the way with a first place finish in the high jump when he cleared 2.14 meters, while he also took second place in the javelin throw with a distance of 49.16 meters. Freshman Andrew Prieto (El Rancho HS) turned in a second place in the discus with a throw of 40.08 meters, while sophomore teammate Aaron Martin (Carson HS) was fourth at 38.89 meters. Prieto also checked in with a shot put of 13.03 meters, good for fourth place.

Freshman Jaime Vega (Downey HS) placed third in the triple jump at 13.12 meters, while the team had multiple entries in each of the field events. Cerritos athletes took fourth through sixth place in the hammer throw, with sophomore Samuel Do (Kennedy, Guam HS) posting a distance of 38.50, while sophomore Michael Barrett (La Mirada HS) was right behind at 38.18 meters.

In the running events, freshman Thomas Cheval (Birmingham HS) took first place in a time of 15.43, while Martin was right behind him with a time of 15.44 to come in second place. Sophomore Terrell White (Washington Prep HS/ECC Compton Center) recorded a time of 2:00.13 to finish in second place in the 800 meters, with the Falcons taking second and third place in the 200 meters. Freshman Mike Jolly (Paramount HS) posted a time of 51.51, with freshman Colin Monaco (Long Beach Poly HS) in fourth place at 51.52.
