M. Track & Field: Fifth-best decathlon total set at Mt. SAC

Cerritos College freshman decathlete Thomas Cheval (Birmingham HS) compiled 6430 points at the Mt. SAC Combined Events Challenge over the weekend to come in second place overall. His point total not only earned him a second place finish, it was also the fifth best point total in school history. The Falcons will now host the Cerritos Invitational this weekend, with Friday slated for the decathlon and Saturday for the running and field events.

Joining Cheval in the race for first place was sophomore Aaron Martin (Carson HS), who finished in third place with 6324 points, while Mt. San Antonio's Miles Poullard won with 6448 points. Also competing for the Falcons were Colin Monaco (Long Beach Poly HS), who came in ninth place with 5469 points, while sophomore Jake Ostgaard (La Mirada HS) had 5349 points to come in 11th place and Diego Del Carmen (Huntington Park HS), whose 3850 points put him in 18th place.

In the first event of the decathlon, Cheval got a great start when he earned 823 points for his time of11.17 in the 100 meters, and stayed in first place after the second event. He cleared 21' 9" in the long jump to earn 729 points. Cheval and Martin each picked up 549 points in the pole vault when they cleared 12' 3 1/2", which tied for the third best height. Martin also did well in the 1500 meters, as he earned 683 points with his time of 4:39.53, while he picked up 619 points for his discus throw that went 123' 11". Del Carmen ended the day  with the fifth fastest 1500 meters with a time of 4:39.12, which earned him 686 points.
