M. Track: Team goes up against four-year schools

The Cerritos College men's track and field team took on three four-year universities at the UC Irvine Five-Way Meet on Saturday. Although the Falcons were defeated by both Cal State Long Beach (108-70) and Purdue University (100-72), the team did defeat the host Anteaters, 91-77. The team will now travel to Tuscon, AZ on Saturday for the Willie Williams Classic, which will be held at the University of Arizona.

Highlighting the UC Irvine meet was sophomore Jonathan Bazinet (California HS), who came in third place in the 1500 meters with a time of 3:55.32. That time was also the fifth fastest in school history. Five of the six entries in the javelin were Falcons, with sophomore Adam Aguirre (California HS) easily winning the event with a throw of 170' 3". while sophomore Jake Ostgaard (La Mirada HS) recorded a second place distance of 158' 11". Aguirre also won the high jump with a height of 6' 10 3/4", and just missed out on tying his school record height of 7' 0", with his long jump of 21' 10" earning him a third place.

In the 200 meters, sophomore Terrell White (Washington Prep HS) came in fourth place with a time of 21.91. In the 400-meter relay, the quartet of Steven Sunter (Long Beach Wilson HS), White, Travis Thomas and Mike Jolly (Paramount HS) turned in a time of 42.56, which earned them a third place finish. The 1600-meter relay team posted a time of 3:14.65 and consisted of Thomas, Mike Ewell (Long Beach Wilson HS), Fabian Mendoza (Downey HS) and White. Sophomore Jesus Morales (Huntington Park HS) came in fifth place in the 800 meters in 1:56.05, while Muaz Ilyas (Fountain Valley HS) just missed out on winning the triple jump and settled for second place at 42' 2 1/4".
