The Cerritos College women's tennis team posted their first win of the season, as they defeated visiting Irvine Valley College, 5-4 on Thursday. The Falcons (1-1) will host their second match in as many days, as they take on Palomar College at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.

The newest addition to the roster, freshman Mariia Yatsenko (School 328, Ukraine), had a very successful first match. She teamed in doubles with freshman Taylor Heath (Cerritos HS) for a hard-fought 9-7 win in the #1 position. Yatsenko finished the day with a stellar 6-0, 6-0 win over Marissa Woolsey in the #4 singles position.

Cerritos took two of the three doubles matches to start the day, while they clinched the match with three straight set singles wins. Sophomore Stef Flores (Golden Valley Charter HS) and freshman Anastasia Khomyachenko (Sochi, Russia) posted a convincing 8-0 victory in the #2 position, while Khomyachenko picked up a 6-1, 6-1 singles win playing at #3.

Heath also won at the top of the ladder when she defeated Renee Walton, 6-2, 6-0.
