M. Swimming: Freshman leads Falcons to fifth place

Cerritos College men's swimming freshman Marlon Moreno (Colegio Virgen del Rosario, Venezuela HS) posted three top six finishes, including a first place, to help the team come in fifth place at the Golden West Invitational on Friday with 842 team points. The Falcons will now open South Coast Conference action this Friday when they travel to East Los Angeles College to take on the Huskies and Chaffey College.

Moreno easily won the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 26.40, which was almost three seconds faster than the second place time. He also posted a time of 28.33 in the 50-yard breaststroke to finish in third place, while teammates Alan Pae (Kennedy HS) and Marcus Delgado (La Serna HS) came in fifth (28.96) and seventh (29.59) places, respectively. It was a time of 22.65 that earned Moreno a sixth place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (22.65).

The Falcons also performed will in the relay races, as the quartet of Moreno, Pae, Delgado and freshman Peter Roldan (Downey HS) turned in a third place time of 1:43.17, while Moreno, Pae, freshman Randy Baldwin (Buena Park HS) and Roldan were clocked in 3:52.16 to come in fourth place in the 400-yard medley relay and were just edged out for third place by Riverside City College's time of 3:52.07. It was a fifth place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay for Moreno, Baldwin, Roldan and Delgado with a time of 3:26.22, with the time of 1:32.96 good for seventh place for Moreno, Roldan, Delgado and freshman Israel Ramirez in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

In other individual races, freshman Diego Lucas (Warren HS) took eighth place in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:03.42, with Pae placing third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.09) and just barely missed second place, which went to Josh Morgan of Golden West in 1:05.03. Roldan also came in eighth in the 100-yard freestyle at 52.86, as did Baldwin in the 100-yard IM (1:01.47).
