M. Swimming: Falcons pick up conference win

On the strength of three individual wins, the Cerritos College men's swimming team defeated host Pasadena City College, 210-56 in their final South Coast Conference meet on Friday. The Falcons (4-3) came up short against El Camino College, 160.5-119-5, who was also competing in the conference meet. The team has three more invitationals before the South Coast Conference Championships, with the swimmers competing in the Golden West Invitational and the divers going to the Pasadena Invitational on Friday.

Freshman Randy Baldwin (Buena Park HS) earned one of the team's three first place finishes, as he posted a time of 2:09.61 to capture the 200-yard butterfly. Also one of the team's divers, Baldwin tied for second place with 147.70 points, while sophomore teammate Richard Park (Gahr HS) edged him out for first place with 149.50 points. Baldwin earned the team more points with his third place finish in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:09.78 and swam the second leg of the 200-yard medley relay team that posted a second place time of 1:49.36. That quartet also included Diego Lucas (Warren HS), Daryl DaSilva (Cerritos HS) and Peter Roldan (Downey HS).

In the 50-yard freestyle, freshman Marlon Moreno (Colegio Virgen del Rosario, Venezuela HS) posted a first place time of 22.40, while sophomore Henry Rodriguez (Downey HS) took third place in 23.25. Moreno also earned a second place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.01 and was the anchor swimmer in the 400-yard freestyle relay that took second place. Joining him to post a time of 2:26.77 were Roldan, sophomore Marcus Delgado (La Serna HS) and Rodriguez.

Lucas earned a second place in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.40), while freshman Alan Pae (Kennedy HS) finished in second place at 1:03.20 in the 100-yard breaststroke with Delgado (1:04.22) in third place. With a time of 2:21.20, Pae took second in the 200-yard breaststroke, while Delgado (58.24) and Rodriguez (58.55) took second and third in the 100-yard butterfly.
