The Cerritos College men's swimming team amassed 786 points to win the Palomar Invitational over the weekend. In addition to the team's success, freshman Marlon Moreno (Colegio Virgen del Rosario, Venezuela HS) and sophomore Henry Rodriguez (Downey HS) started the weekend by coming in second and fourth place, respectively in the pentathlon. The Falcons will now swim in the East Los Angeles Pentathlon on Friday, while the divers will compete on Saturday.

In the relay events at the Waterman Festival, Cerritos earned a first place in the 350-yard breaststroke with a convincing time of 3:57.67, which was 23 seconds ahead of the second place team. In the 200-yard medley relay, the time of 1:45.12 was good enough for second place.

Individually, freshman Alan Pae (Kennedy HS) won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.26, which edged Moreno, who came in second place at 1:03.32. Moreno also came in second place in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 22.96, while Rodriguez earned a second place finish in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.79. Freshman Randy Baldwin (Buena Park HS) picked up a third place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.40, while his time of 11:57.59 earned him a fourth place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle.

In the pentathlon, Moreno compiled a time of 2:41.67 to come in second place out of 55 swimmers, while Rodriguez finished with a time of 2:48.20 to place fourth overall. Moreno took second place in the 50-yard backstroke (27.32) and 50-yard breaststroke (28.66), while his times in the 50-yard freestyle (22.57) and 100-yard IM (57.43) were the third fastest out of all of the competitors. He tied for fifth place in the 50-yard butterfly (25.69) with Rodriguez, who posted the fastest time on the 50-yard backstroke with a clocking of 27.41. His time of 1:00.10 was good for sixth in the 100-yard IM, with sophomore teammate Marcus Delgado (La Serna HS) swimming the 50-yard breaststroke in 29.94, good for fourth place, as he came in 13th overall.
