Cerritos College freshman swimmer Marlon Moreno (Colegio Virgen del Rosario, Venezuela HS) competed in his first of two events at the CCCAA State Championships on Friday at East Los Angeles College. Moreno, who will swim in the 100-yard freestyle on Saturday, came in 17th place in the 100-yard backstroke.
His time of 55.19 in the prelims was one place shy of competing in the evening consolation round. At the South Coast Conference Championships last week, Moreno swam a personal best 54.00, which was the 14th fastest time in the state and earned him a third place finish. Had me matched that time, it would have put him in 13th place in the prelims and qualified for the finals round.
