After the first day of the South Coast Conference Championships, the Cerritos College men's swimming team is in a tight race for second through fourth place. The Falcons, who have 153.5 team points, trail second place Long Beach City College (156 team points) and El Camino College (154.5), while host Mt. San Antonio College is in first place. The second day of the three-day event takes place on Friday.
Cerritos picked up a good amount of their points in the two relay races, as they earned both a third and fourth place. The 400-yard medley relay team of Marlon Moreno (Colegio Virgen del Rosario, Venezuela HS), Alan Pae (Kennedy HS), Randy Baldwin (Buena Park HS) and Marcus Delgado (La Serna HS) recorded a time of 3:39.77. They were barely edged out for second place by LBCC's time of 3:39.15.
It was a fourth place finish for the quarter of Moreno, Daryl DaSilva (Cerritos HS), Henry Rodriguez (Downey HS) and Delgado in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Moreno gave the team a slight edge after the first 50 yards, but eventually slipped into fourth place and finished that way by the end of the race.
Individually, Moreno came in fifth place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.12, with Delgado a close sixth in 22.15, while Baldwin posted a seventh place time of 2:00.42 in the 200-yard IM. The diving competition, which was held a week ago, saw Richard Park (Gahr HS) take third in the 3-meter event with 135.35 points.
