M. Swimming: Falcons pick up conference win

The Cerritos College men's swimming team picked up a South Coast Conference win on Friday when they defeated Rio Hondo College, 231-19. The other team at the event was Long Beach City College, and they handed the Falcons (3-2) a 157-117 setback. The team will now travel to Pasadena City College on Friday for a 12:30 conference meet against the Lancers and El Camino College.

On the day, the team won four events and came in second place in seven individual races and both relay events. In the 200-yard butterfly, freshman Randy Baldwin (Buena Park HS) easily won the event with a time of 2:10.58, which was 12 seconds ahead of the next finisher. Freshman John Reynoso (Paramount HS) posted a win in the 200-yard breaststroke with a clocking of 2:17.19, while freshman Marlon Moreno (Colegio Virgen del Rosario, Venezuela HS) edged out LBCC's Brian Seel in the 50-yard freestyle. Moreno touched up in 22.63, with Seel close behind at 22.99. Sophomore Richard Park (Gahr HS) came in first place in the diving competition with 199 points, while Baldwin took second with 198 points.

The 200-yard medley relay team of sophomore Henry Rodriguez (Downey HS), freshman Alan Pae (Kennedy HS), sophomore Marcus Delgado (La Serna HS) and Moreno posted a second place time of 1:43.54 and was barely edged out by Long Beach City, who won the event in 1:43.14. In the final event of the day, the Falcons were defeated in the 400-yard freestyle by a little over a second by the Vikings. That team was comprised of freshman Peter Roldan (Downey HS), freshman Daryl DaSilva (Cerritos HS), freshman Israel Ramirez and freshman Fernando Lua (Gahr HS).

Those posting second place finishes include Lua in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:23.43), Moreno in the 100-yard freestyle (50.48) and 200-yard freestyle (1:54.46), Delgado in the 100-yard butterfly (58.20), Pae in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.78) and Baldwin, who was edged by .01 second in the 200-yard IM, as he finished in a time of 2:10.18. Freshman Diego Lucas (Warren HS) also posted a second place time of 1:01.78 in the 100-yard backstroke.
