W. Basketball: Pair earn All-American honors

A pair of former Cerritos College women's basketball players were honored for their accomplishments at the conclusion of their 2013 seasons. April Perry, a senior guard at Southern University of New Orleans was named 2nd Team All-American by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), while senior guard/forward Andrina Rendon was an Honorable Mention selection. Rendon was also honored by the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA).

Perry, who was named the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year, led the team to a second place finish in the conference and an appearance in the NAIA Playoffs against Lubbock Christian University. In that game, Perry scored 16 points with four assists and four rebounds, in the team's 78-57 loss to the top-ranked Lady Chaparrals. The loss ended the season at 20-5 for the Lady Knights.

Rendon, who played for the Falcons from 2010-12, finished third in the GSAC, 10th in the NAIA and second in the NCCAA with an 18.9 scoring average and also added 9.6 rebounds a game for the Royals. Rendon helped Hope International (12-18) advanced to the first round of the GSAC playoffs and NCCAA Western Regional playoffs

While with the Falcons, Perry was a two-time 1st Team All-South Coast Conference selection and led the team in scoring at 15.7 points and 3.9 assists a game, while she led the team in steals (40) and converted 74% of her free throws.

While at Cerritos, Rendon, who missed the playoffs with an injury her sophomore season, was named 2nd Team All-State and 1st Team All-South Coast Conference. She led the team with a 14.7 scoring average and a 7.0 rebounding average on the year. Rendon was also an outside shooting threat, as 53 of her 116 baskets on the year were from three-point range, while she also led the way by netting 83-of-102 free throws for an .814 percentage. Rendon was also a 1st Team All-SCC selection her freshman year.
