With wins in six of their last seven games, the Cerritos College women's basketball team suffered a 59-42 setback at the hands of Pasadena City College on Wednesday night. The Falcons, who dropped to 12-9 overall and 5-2 in the South Coast Conference South Division, stayed with the #5-ranked Lancers (17-5, 6-1) through most of the first half and then outscored them in the second half. But shooting struggles and turnovers hurt Cerritos. The team will now host ECC Compton Center (2-17-, 0-7) at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The game will be the 999th game coached by Karen Welliver, who is in her 32nd year with the Falcons.

Early on in the game, Cerritos was in a low-scoring battle with Pasadena City and were as close as 19-15, but saw one player change the tide of the evening. PCC's Tyler Crockom scored four straight baskets for the Lancers, and the Falcons had some scoring struggles the remainder of the half. The end result was a 38-19 deficit at halftime. Crockom scored 12 of her 13 points in the first half for Pasadena City, who had three players score in double-figures.

Led by sophomore forward Nia Lateju (Norwalk HS), who scored a game-high 17 points and added eight rebounds, Cerritos was able to stay within striking distance in the second half, but could just not get close enough to threaten the Lancers. The duo of freshmen Selena Romero (Lakewood HS) and Cassidy Carrillo (St. Paul HS) both added seven points, while Romero (eight rebounds) and sophomore Dijonnae Murphy (Santa Fe HS), who had six boards off the bench, helped the team out-rebound Pasadena City, 44-32.
