The Cerritos College women's basketball team opened their 2013-14 season by posting a 20-point win (58-38) over visiting West Los Angeles College on Saturday night. The Falcons (1-0) will now compete in the Mt. San Jacinto Tournament next weekend and open with a 1:00 p.m. game against Cypress College on Friday.

In the win over the Wildcats, freshman center Selena Romero (Lakewood HS) was the lone player to score in double-figures, as she converted 7-of-13 shots for 14 points and was one of four players with a team-high seven rebounds. The trio of sophomores Nia Lateju (Norwalk HS) and Alii Salone (Gahr HS), along with freshman Cassidy Carrillo (St. Paul HS) all accounted for six points, with Lateju pulling down seven boards. Sophomore Dijonnae Murphy (Santa Fe HS) added seven rebounds off the bench, while Lateju and freshman Michelle Navarro (Warren HS) both handed out four assists.

West Los Angeles played with only five players and trailed 25-12 at halftime. They converted only 27% of their shots on the night, compared to 38% for Cerritos. Sophomore Priscilla Valdovinos (Fremont HS) netted a pair of three-points to also account for six points.
