Through the first half of their South Coast Conference game, the Cerritos College women's basketball team led #2-ranked Mt. San Antonio College, 24-17. The Falcons did so by shooting 43.5% from the field, compared to 17.9% by the Mounties. They continued to shoot well in the second half, but struggled with turnovers, while Mt. SAC went on an 18-10 run to tie the game at 44-44 before securing a 53-47 win over Cerritos. The Falcons (13-10, 6-3) will now host Los Angeles Southwest College at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

But the team didn't score their next basket until 10:25 was left when freshman Selena Romero (Lakewood HS) scored on a jumper. A three-pointer from sophomore Tache' King (Gahr HS) put Cerritos back up by eight points (39-31) with 9:28 remaining. A three-pointer from sophomore Nia Lateju (Norwalk HS) gave Cerritos a nine-point lead ay 42-33 with 7:52 left in the second half.

The Mounties then drained a trio of three-pointers to knot the game at 44 and took the lead for good at 46-45 with 4:39 left on a bucket from LaShanique Youngblood. The Falcons were 1-for-10 from the field the rest of the way, while Mt. San Antonio did just enough to post the win.

Romero led Cerritos with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while King added 10 points. Lateju, who played the entire game, concluded with nine points and five rebounds, with sophomore Alii Salone (Gahr HS) pulling down nine rebounds. Sabrina Norton came off the bench to lead Mt. SAC with 19 points.
