The Cerritos College women's basketball opened the Los Angeles Valley Tournament with a quality win. Their 62-57 victory over San Bernardino Valley College (5-2) was followed by losses to the host Monarchs, 81-54 and then a 64-48 setback against South Coast Conference foe Long Beach City College. The Falcons (4-6) will now travel to Riverside City College on Friday for a 5:00 p.m. non-conference game.

Cerritos vs. San Bernardino Valley: Balance was the key for the Falcons, as every player who saw action scored and pulled down a rebound, with a trio of players accounting for double-digit scoring. Sophomore forward Alii Salone (Gahr HS) led the way with 12 points in the win, with sophomore forward Nia Lateju (Norwalk HS) posted 10 points and led the team with eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Priscilla Valdovinos (Fremont HS) made good on all four of her field goals, which included a pair of three-pointers, as she finished with 11 points and six steals. Freshman center Selena Romero (Lakewood HS) added eight points and seven caroms, with freshman Michelle Navarro (Warren HS) dishing out four assists off the bench and also scored four points.

Cerritos vs. Los Angeles Valley: Facing a team with a hot shooting hand, the Falcons fell behind by 17 points (45-28) after the first 20 minutes and couldn't counter the attack of the Monarchs (7-2). The host team netted 53% of their field goals, which also included nine baskets from three-point range and also out-rebounded Cerritos, 44-30. Salone did lead the way with 13 points, while Romero (nine points, five rebounds) and sophomore Stephanie Ramirez (St. Paul HS), who came off the bench to score seven points, both played well.

Cerritos vs. Long Beach City: Getting their first look at the Vikings this season, the Falcons trailed early in the game and struggled from the field, as they netted just 16-of-61 shots. The team was only 3-for-25 from three-point range, with Romero draining 7-of-11 shots for 15 points and also added six rebounds and three steals. Latejo (10 points, six rebounds) and Valdovinos (10 points, three steals) did their best to keep the team in the game, but couldn't contend with the Vikings (9-2) making 46% of their field goals and 43-26 rebounding advantage.
