Playing their second South Coast Conference game, the Cerritos College women's basketball team posted a convincing 72-50 win over visiting Los Angeles Southwest College on Friday night. The victory was the third in a row for the Falcons (13-6, 2-0), who will now travel to El Camino College for a 5:00 p.m. game on Wednesday.

From the outset of the game, Cerritos received scoring support from a variety of players, which resulted in 33 bench points. By halftime, 10 different players scored for the Falcons, who held a 37-17 lead over the Cougars (4-11, 0-2). It was a 21-15 lead with 5:49 remaining in the first half, but a 16-2 run the rest of the way put the team in control and would lead by close to 20 points the entire second half.

Sophomore Selena Romero (Lakewood HS) scored six points in each half and led the team with 12 points, while sophomore Cassidy Carrillo (St. Paul HS) finished with 11 points and shared the team lead with seven boards. Freshman Aissha Baldwin (Mayfair HS) was the third starter to score in double-figures, and finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Early on, the Falcons turned the ball over on a regular basis and did finish the game with 23 miscues. However, they countered that by shooting 52% from the field and out-rebounded LA Southwest, 55-35.

Off the bench, freshman Kennedi Cooper (Lakewood HS) added seven points and a team-high six assists, while freshman Ashley Flores (California HS) had six points. All 13 players in uniform scored for the Falcons, including five points from freshmen Verenice Gomez (Whittier HS), Miranda Valentin (Bellflower HS) and Clarissa Hernandez (St. Paul HS).
