Looking for their second straight upset win, the Cerritos College women's basketball team was able to extend visiting East Los Angeles College to overtime. But in the extra period, the Falcons (14-8) shot only 3-for-12 from the field and dropped a 74-67 decision to the Huskies (19-2). The team will host top-ranked Mt. San Antonio College at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.

Trailing 58-56 in the final seconds, freshman Clarissa Hernandez (St. Paul HS) rebounded a missed free throw from ELAC's Olivia Ochoa. The Falcons called timeout with 10.8 seconds left to set up the final play. Hernandez fed the ball to sophomore Selena Romero (Lakewood HS), whose turnaround jumped was good with 1.5 seconds left and sent the game into overtime.

Taking over since the second half, Ochoa scored 10 of the Huskies points in overtime and sealed the win with four free throws down the stretch after opening the extra stanza with a three-pointer. She finished the night with five three-pointers and scored 35 points, which the Falcons were unable to overcome.

In the first half, Cerritos was crisp with their passing and played solid defense, as they limited the Huskies to just 29 points. But it was Ochoa who broke out and scored 28 of her points in the second half and overtime. The Falcons led, 34-25 with 1:18 left in the first half, but were outscored, 21-6 over the next 12:20. They fought back to take a brief 52-50 lead after a Hernandez (15 points, six rebounds, five assists) basket with 4:57 remaining.

In addition to Hernandez, freshman Verenice Gomez (Whittier HS) and sophomore Cassidy Carrillo (St. Paul HS) each scored 11 points, with Romero finishing with eight points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Freshman Aissha Baldwin (Mayfair HS), the team's leading rebounder, fouled out with 26 seconds left in the second half and concluded the game with eight points and 10 caroms.
