Sophomore Selena Romero (Lakewood HS) scored on a put-back with 3.9 seconds left to give the Cerritos College women's basketball team a 68-67 win over visiting Pasadena City College (15-8) on Friday night. Down 67-66 after Regerina Baker netted a pair of free throws, both teams missed on their next possession, with freshman Aissha Baldwin (Mayfair HS) coming up short on a layup. On the ensuing possession, freshman Verenice Gomez (Whittier HS) drew a charge with :24 seconds left to get the ball back. After a timeout, Baldwin got another good look at the basket on her shot. But went it caromed off the rim, Romero was there for the rebound and scored to give Cerritos (15-10) their 68-67 win. The victory snapped a three-game losing streak, as the team travels to Compton on Wednesday to face ECC Compton Center.

Trailing by as many as 12 points in the second half (49-37), the Falcons started draining three-pointers to get back into the game. In the second half alone, Cerritos was 7-of-13 from long range, with Gomez (14 points, four steals) hitting three of her season-high four three-pointers in the second stanza. Freshman Sydney Lopez (Whittier Christian HS) came off the bench to add 10 points and a pair of threes before fouling out. Cerritos had 17 bench points and nine rebounds in the win.

It was a Lopez three-pointer with 4:52 that got the Falcons to within three points at 63-60, while Gomez netted a trey to tie the game with 3:48 remaining.

The Lancers relied on the inside scoring of Baker, who led all scorers with 26 points and added 16 rebounds. Of those 26 points, 20 of them came in the second half, as Pasadena City led for the majority of the game.

Baldwin recorded another double-double with her 12 points and 12 rebounds, while sophomore Cassidy Carrillo (St. Paul HS) hit several big shots and ended up with 14 points and five assists on the night. Romero finished with eight points and 10 rebounds.
