In their first action of the season, the Cerritos College women's basketball team won one of their three games at the Riverside Tournament. The Falcons opened with an 83-68 loss to the host Tigers, then followed that with a win over Bakersfield College (87-71) and then finished the weekend with a 74-71 loss to Solano College. The team will play a pair of games at Los Angeles Valley College next week, as they take on Antelope Valley College next Friday and then the host Monarchs on Saturday.

Cerritos vs. Riverside: It was a slow start for the Falcons, who trailed 23-12 after the first quarter and 41-23 at halftime. They cut into their deficit in the third quarter by outscoring the Tigers, 23-14, but could only get as close as 55-46 late in the third quarter after an Angie Ferreira (Long Beach Millikan HS) three-pointer. Sophomore Kaylyn James (Lakewood HS) led the team with 31 points, which included five three-pointers, to go along with five rebounds. Off the bench, the team received 16 points, 11 rebounds, five steals and four assists from freshman Esther Franks (Long Beach Millikan HS), while freshman Julia Ochoa (Whittier HS) posted five points and seven rebounds.

Cerritos vs. Bakersfield: Led by the duo of Franks (25 points, nine rebounds, three assists) and James (23 points, three rebounds), the Falcons picked up their first win of the season. They converted 50% of their field goals, which included going 10-of-17 from three-point range, with five different players hitting buckets from long range. Freshman Christina Mina (Bellflower HS) was good on all three of her attempts and finished with 10 points, while freshman Crystal Rodriguez (El Rancho HS) produced 13 points and seven rebounds before fouling out. James netted her first three-point attempt of the game to give the Falcons a 3-1 lead and they went on to lead the rest of the way.

Cerritos vs. Solano: In their final game, the Falcons took a late 66-65 lead with 2:25 left in the fourth quarter on a James three-pointer. Ferreira converted a pair of free throws with :25 seconds left to draw the team even at 71-71, and when Ochoa was called for a foul with Solano's Mae Moore attempting a three-pointer, she converted just one of them for a 72-21 Solano lead with :12 seconds left. Looking for the final shot, Franks was called for an offensive foul with :07 seconds left and Jenessa Boling netted both free throws. James got off the last shot of the game, but the Falcons came up short. James led the team with 21 points, with Ferriera adding 16 points and six assists, which included going 10-for-10 from the free throw line. Rodriguez posted 15 points and 10 rebounds with Franks finishing with eight points and eight rebounds.
