Playing in close game with visiting Los Angeles Southwest College on Wednesday night, the Cerritos College women's basketball team pulled away for a 76-60 win. The South Coast Conference South Division victory improves the Falcons record to 9-16 overall and 4-3 in divisional play. With three games left in the regular season, the team will travel to Los Angeles Harbor College for a 7:00 p.m. game on Friday.

Entering the fourth quarter with a 52-48 lead, Cerritos surrendered the first two  points of the quarter, but a three-pointer from freshman guard Angie Ferreira (Long Beach Millikan HS) seemed to get the team rolling. It started a 14-0 run over the next 5:49 that put the game in control for the Falcons. In the run, four different players scored, which accounted for the balanced offensive attack, as four players scored in double-figures.

Their up-tempo style of offense was too much for the Cougars (4-20, 0-7), who found themselves fouling from behind as the Falcons were finishing fast breaks. Cerritos converted 19-of-29 free throws, with nine of them coming in the final 10-minute quarter.

Sophomore Kaylyn James (Lakewood HS) led the team with 16 points, which included four three-pointers and eight rebounds, while the duo of freshmen Alexis Clark (Mayfair HS) and Crystal Rodriguez (El Rancho HS) both posted 15 points in the win. Clark recorded her second straight double-double with her 11 rebounds, with Rodriguez pulling down eight rebounds. Ferreira had 12 points and a season-high nine assists, while freshman Alondra Calderon (La Serna HS) came off the bench to post nine points and five assists.
