In their South Coast Conference South Division opener, the Cerritos College women's basketball team posted their largest win of the season. The Falcons (6-13, 1-0) recorded a 65-36 win over visiting ECC Compton Center on Wednesday night. The team will look to earn another divisional win on Friday when they travel to Los Angeles Southwest College for a 7:00 p.m. game.

They opened the game by scoring the first nine points against the Lady Tartars (6-11, 0-1) and saw that lead swell to 20-8 by the end of the first quarter. In the first 10 minutes of the game, freshman Crystal Rodriguez (El Rancho HS) had accounted for eight points, while sophomore Kaylyn James (Lakewood HS) scored seven points.

This was a game that allowed the Falcons to run the floor for 40 minutes although they have only eight players on the roster. As a team, Cerritos shot 43% from the field and netted six three points, with freshman Angie Ferreira (Long Beach Millikan HS) hitting four of them. They were able to take advantage of 27 ECC Compton Center turnovers, with Ferreira, Rodriguez and freshman Mele Valele (Norwalk HS) each finishing with four steals apiece.

James led all scorers with 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting and paced the Falcons with seven rebounds, with Rodriguez concluding the night with 18 points and six caroms. Ferreira added 14 points and three assists, while freshman Alexis Clark (Mayfair HS) posted six points, five rebounds and three steals in the win.
