The Cerritos College women's basketball team finished their non-conference schedule this week at the Fullerton Tournament and won one of three games. The Falcons (4-10) will be starting their South Coast Conference crossover schedule on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. against Chaffey College. It will also mark the first home game of the season for Cerritos. At the Fullerton Tournament, the team was defeated, 84-53 by Santa Monica College in their first game and came back the next day to defeat San Diego Mesa College, 59-43. They were then defeated in the consolation championship game, 55-38 against Skyline College.

Cerritos vs. Santa Monica: In the first half, the Falcons shot only 25% from the field and committed 20 turnovers, which led to their 48-20 deficit. Cerritos did get a season-high 20 points from freshman Alexis Clark (Mayfair HS), which included 10-of-13 from the free throw line. Freshman forward Crystal Rodriguez (El Rancho HS) added 12 points and 10 rebounds, with freshman Angie Ferreira (Long Beach Millikan HS) netting a trio of three-pointers on her way to nine points, four rebounds and three assists in the loss.

Cerritos vs. San Diego Mesa: Although the team converted only 21-of-60 field goals, they won the game with their success on the boards. Rodriguez, who scored seven points, led the team with 18 rebounds, with nine of them on the offensive end. As a team, the Falcons pulled down a season-high 58 rebounds, with sophomore Kaylyn James (Lakewood HS) coming off the bench to account for 12 caroms to go along with her 15 points and three blocked shots. In the first quarter, Ferreira gave the team their first lead of the tournament when she netted a three-pointer for an 11-8 advantage. They trailed again for most of the game until James broke a 25-25 team when she connected from three-point range with 4:47 left in the third quarter. It was a 26-15 fourth quarter the allowed the team to pull ahead for the lead and eventual win.

Cerritos vs. Skyline: In the consolation championship game, the Falcons fell behind, 17-2 at one point and 20-6 after the first quarter, while they trailed 29-20 at intermission. They got as close as seven points early in the second half, but could not gain any more ground. James led the team with 12 points, six rebounds, five steals and four assists off the bench, with Rodriguez posting 10 points and six rebounds. Clark led the team with nine rebounds, while freshman Ashley Davis (Long Beach Poly HS) had five points and freshman Alondra Calderon (La Serna HS) pulled down six rebounds.
