With a chance to post one of their biggest wins of the season, the Cerritos College women's basketball team came up short, 60-59 against rival Long Beach City College on Friday night. The Falcons (7-15, 2-2) will host El Camino College at 7:00 p.m. next Wednesday in another South Coast Conference South Division game.

After breaking a 55-55 tie on a second converted free throw by freshman Alexis Clark (Mayfair HS), she added a layup on the team's next possession for a 58-55 lead with :25 seconds remaining. LBCC's Janay Wellington netted one of two free throws before Clark converted one of two free throws for a 59-56 advantage with :20 seconds left.

Wellington made it a 59-58 Cerritos lead on a basket with :15 seconds left. With a chance to regain their three-point lead, freshman Angie Ferreira (Long Beach Millikan HS) missed two critical free throws with :14 seconds remaining. With time running out, freshman Alondra Calderon (La Serna HS) fouled Wellington with :04 seconds left. After netting both shots for a 60-59 Vikings advantage, the Falcons attempted a three-pointer at the buzzer, but Ferreria's shot was off line and the Falcons dropped a one-point game.

Cerritos trailed Long Beach City most of the game, and were finally able to overtake the Vikings in the fourth quarter. They were down by as many as 13 points (36-23) with 1:02 left in the first half.

Clark and freshman Crystal Rodriguez (El Rancho HS) each scored 16 points for the Falcons, with Rodriguez also hauling in 12 rebounds, while sophomore Kaylyn James (Lakewood HS) recorded 15 points and 11 rebounds. As a team, Cerritos shot just 28% from the field, but out-rebounded LBCC, 47-40, with 23 of their rebounds coming on the offensive end.
