Freshman Nayeli Requejo (Bishop Amat HS) scored a pair of first half goals for the Cerritos College women's soccer team to lead them to a 2-1 non-conference win over visiting Cosumnes River College on Friday. The win improved the #1-ranked Falcons to 3-0-0, who will now travel north for a pair of games this weekend. On Friday, the team will face San Francisco City College at 4:00 p.m. and then take on Taft College at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday.

On both Requejo goals, sophomore Claudia Lopez (Downey HS) was able to feed her and earn the assist. Just 10 minutes into the game, Lopez was able to lift the ball over the Hawks defense to Reguejo, who was chipped the ball past goalkeeper Anna Brown. A little over 10 minutes later, Lopez and Requejo executed a similar play, which resulted on a clean shot at the net.

Sitting on a comfortable lead, the Falcons continued to control most of the play in the first half, as they outshot Cosumnes River, 12-3 with the defense turning away every threat. With the majority of the starters resting in the second half, Cerritos did a fine job of neutralizing the Hawks. But in the 65th minute, Vilma Gonzalez broke through the defense and scored on sophomore Alexis Carrillo (Bishop Amat HS), which ruined the shutout attempt. In the first half, freshman Adrianna Salazar (Downey HS) turned away three shots, while Carrillo finished with four saves.
