Through the first six games of their season, the Cerritos College women's soccer team has out-scored their opponents, 22-3, as they have posted a 6-0-0 record. The Falcons recorded their third shutout of the season on Friday when they defeated host Los Angeles Pierce College, 3-0. The nation's top-ranked team will take a little time off until October 1 when they start South Coast Conference play at 4:00 p.m., as they host Los Angeles Harbor College. Cerritos has won the last eight conference titles.

In the win over the Brahmas, the teams played a scoreless first half. But after some minor adjustments, Cerritos dominated the second half and got on the board in the first five minutes. Freshman Krista Velasco (Downey HS) received the ball off the left side of the box and slipped in behind the defense with a nice move. She spotted sophomore Claudia Lopez (Downey HS), who handled the pass and scored her seventh goal of the season.

Not more than 10 minutes later, the Falcons picked up an insurance goal when sophomore April Juarez (Bishop Amat HS/USC) sent a corner kick toward the net. The ball eventually landed in front of sophomore Jasmine Cornejo (Artesia HS) inside the six-yard box and she poked the ball into the net. Cerritos added their third goal in the final minute of the game on a penalty kick from freshman Nayeli Requejo (Bishop Amat HS), her fifth of the year.

In addition to a solid defensive effort, sophomore goalkeeper Alexis Carrillo (Bishop Amat HS) earned the shutout after posting three second half stops. It was her first full-game shutout, but has shared in the other two with freshman Adriana Salazar (Downey HS).
