Sophomores April Juarez (Bishop Amat HS/USC) and Jennifer Torres (Firebaugh HS) each scored five goals, as the Cerritos College women's soccer team posted a 17-0 South Coast Conference win over ECC Compton Center on Tuesday. The win improved the Falcons record to 14-0-1 and 8-0-1 in conference play on the same day they maintained their #1 national ranking. The team will travel to El Camino College on Friday for a 3:00 p.m. conference game.
Juarez, who now has 12 goals on the year, scored her five goals in the first half, while Torres accounted for two in the first half and three more in the second half. Torres, who now has eight goals on the season, scored four straight goals for the Falcons. The five-goal outbursts were one goal shy of tying the school's single-game record of six goals set in 2008 by Monique Cisneros.
ECC Compton Center (1-10-3, 0-7-1) entered the game with only 10 players and after an injury in the first half, were down to nine players for the final 60 minutes of the game. Cerritos scored their goals in bunches and led 11-0 at intermission. Freshman goalkeeper Adrianna Salazar (Downey HS) wasn't asked to make any saves on the day.
The lopsided score allowed every healthy player to see action, including freshman Cassie Reyes (Bishop Amat HS), who missed the last nine games with an injury. She added an assist on the 12th goal of the game and also hit the goalpost on two other occasions. Her sister, freshman Brianna Reyes (Etiwanda HS), scored her first goal of the season.
Sophomore Claudia Lopez (Downey HS) had two goals and three assists in the game, while freshman Celinna Montano (Warren HS) added a goal and two assists, with freshman Nayeli Requejo (Bishop Amat HS) finishing with a goal and assist. Freshman Clara Gomez (El Modena HS) added a pair of assists.
