With first place in the South Coast Conference on the line, the Cerritos College women's soccer team posted a 3-0 win over host Long Beach City College on Tuesday. The shutout was the sixth in a row for the Falcons (11-0-0, 5-0-0), who are ranked #1 in the nation by the NSCAA. They will look to continue their undefeated season when they travel to Pasadena City College for a 3:00 p.m. game on Friday.

The first half remained scoreless, despite several scoring chances by the Falcons. Using their overall team speed, Cerritos got off several scoring chances against the Vikings, while sophomore April Juarez (Bishop Amat HS/USC) had a hard shot deflect off the crossbar.

But in the span of 11 minutes in the second half, the team scored three times to take their insurmountable lead. In the 52nd minute, sophomore Jasmine Cornejo (Artesia HS) redirected a corner kick into the box where freshman Nayeli Requejo (Bishop Amat HS) headed the ball past LBCC goalkeeper Karen Nuno.

Less than eight minutes later it would be a 2-0 Cerritos lead when sophomore Claudia Lopez (Downey HS) passed the ball to a streaking freshman Carolina Ornelas (Artesia HS) on the left side. Ornelas used her blazing speed to get behind the Long Beach defenders and scored on a breakaway. With the Vikings still reeling from the quick-strike Falcon offense, Requejo scored her second goal of the game in the 63rd minute when she dribbled past a pair of defenders after receiving a pass from Ornelas and scored on the right side.

The Cerritos defense worked well with sophomore goalkeeper Alexis Carrillo (Bishop Amat HS), who posted the shutout and turned away five shots in the win. It was the eighth shutout on the season out of the team's 11 wins.
