If the Cerritos College women's soccer team is going to win their ninth straight South Coast Conference championship, they will have to beat the three teams right behind them in the standings in their final three games. The Falcons (16-0-1, 10-0-1) maintained their five-point lead over second place Mt. San Antonio College with a 5-1 win over host East Los Angeles College on Tuesday. Ranked #1 in the nation by the NSCAA, Cerritos will now host third place Long Beach City College at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.

Leading the way in the win over the Huskies was sophomore April Juarez (Bishop Amat HS/USC), who scored a pair of goals and added an assist, while freshman Nayeli Requejo (Bishop Amat HS) posted a goal and assist in the win. Juarez opened the scoring in the fifth minute of the game when she took on three defenders before taking a shot from 30 yards out for her 13th goal of the season. The play started when sophomore Jasmine Cornejo (Artesia HS) brought down a clearing pass from the goal at midlfield.

Juarez scored her 14th goal of the year in the 30th minute to make it a 3-0 lead when she received a pass from Requejo at the six-yard box. Juarez then made a couple of moves to shake a pair of defenders and then scored into the lower left corner. As for Requejo, she picked up her team-leading 20th goal in the 48th minute on a penalty kick.

Mixing in with the scoring were freshman Cassie Reyes (Bishop Amat HS) and Claudia Lopez (Downey HS), who picked up her 17th goal of the season in the 20th minute. On the play, freshman Clara Gomez (El Modena HS) won the ball at midfield and found Lopez, who worked her way around two defenders and shot from the outside of the box for a goal. Reyes scored her first goal of the year when Juarez found her on the right side of the field. She dribbled inside and took a shot from the right side of the field that found the back of the net.

Sophomore goalkeeper Alexis Carrillo (Bishop Amat HS) played the first 45 minutes and recorded one save, while freshman Adriana Salazar (Downey HS) allowed a second half goal and made one stop.
