The Cerritos College women's soccer team opens the CCCAA State Tournament on Friday.

Heading into the CCCAA State Championships, the Cerritos College women's soccer team has faced two of the three other teams in the Final Four, while the third is a familiar post-season foe. The Falcons (22-0-1), seeded #1 in the playoffs and ranked #1 in the country by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) among Division III (non-scholarship) schools, will take on Foothill College at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. A win would send the team to the state championship game at 10:00 a.m. against either Santiago Canyon College or San Francisco City College.

Cerritos has already faced both of the Northern California teams this season, while they defeated the Hawks in the state championship game, 2-0, last year. The Falcons defeated Foothill, 4-0 on their home field on September 13 and then followed that with a 2-1 win over San Francisco City two days later on their turf. Last year, Cerritos opened the season with a 2-2 tie against the Rams, followed by a 3-1 win over the Owls on their way to the state title.

The history the Falcons have with Santiago Canyon dates back to 2006, with their five previous games all coming in the post-season. In addition to their 2-0 state championship win in 2012, Cerritos won their first-ever state title in 2007 with a 2-1 win, as the team scored late in the second half and then in extra time to pull out the improbable victory. The Falcons also posted a 1-0 overtime 2nd Round playoff win in 2010, while the Hawks own a 7-0 win in the 3rd Round back in 2006 and a 1-0 victory in the second round back in 2009.
