With time running out in their South Coast Conference match against visiting Mt. San Antonio College on Friday, the Cerritos College women's soccer team finally broke through in the final minutes to score the game-winning goal. After watching the Mounties come back from a 2-0 deficit, which included the Falcons allowing an own-goal, the duo of freshmen Natalie deLeon (St. Joseph HS) and Carolina Jaramillo (Cetis 58, Tijuana HS) broke through and scored in the 87th minute.

Facing an aggressive Cassidy Mount in goal, deLeon dribbled around Mt. SAC defender Ashlyn Salgado and sent a crossing pass in the direction of Jaramillo. She was able to jump above the Mountie defenders and headed home the game-winner. Throughout the physical match, both teams had good scoring chances, but it was the Falcons (14-0-3, 9-0-1) that turned on the offensive pressure in the last 10 minutes and eventually got the goal they were working toward.

Cerritos took a 2-0 lead on goals by deLeon and Jaramillo before Mt. SAC (5-10-1, 4-5-1) was able to tie the game with two goals in 18 minutes. deLeon took advantage of Mount's aggressive play on the first goal in the 16th minute, as she was able to work the ball free from the keeper at the top of the 18-yard box, and scored into the lower corner of the unprotected net. Early in the second half, Mount came out from the protection of the goal and Jaramillo capitalized with a shot that went over Mount and into the net in the 50th minute.

Mt. SAC cut their deficit in half with a goal in the 53rd minute, as Falcon goalie Ruby Nichols (Bishop Amat HS) saw a shot by Abigail Colmenares bounce in her direction and then over her head and into the net. The second goal saw the momentum of the game shift, as sophomore Malia Tilson (El Modena HS), the team's best defender, accidently misdirect the ball into the net when trying to clear the ball out of danger.

Prior to that tying goal, the Mounties hit the crossbar off a corner kick on a mad scramble in front of the net. The pressure eventually led to the second Mt. SAC goal.

Cerritos will now travel to Pasadena City College next Tuesday for a 3:00 p.m. conference match.
