During the first half of the season, the Cerritos College women's soccer team had experienced trouble scoring goals. On Tuesday, that was not a concern, as the Falcons set a new school record in a 19-1 South Coast Conference win over visiting ECC Compton Center. In addition to the team setting a new total goal record, freshman Carolina Jaramillo (Cetis 58, Tijuana HS) established a new standard with six assists - to go along with her three goals. The six helpers breaks the old record of four assists set by Tiffany Schultz (2010), Nancy Gandarilla (2009) and Erin Kingsbury (1995).
It didn't take long for the Falcons (12-0-2, 7-0-0) to get on the board, as Jaramillo scored her first goal of the game just 1:14 into the contest. She dribbled through the Compton defense after receiving a pass from freshman Valerie Lopez (Santa Fe HS) and scored on a low shot. She assisted on the second goal in the 20th minute when she and Amber Whitmore (Los Alamitos HS) went in on a two-on-one and Whitmore scored into an empty net.
By the end of the first half, it was a 6-0 lead when Whitmore scoring twice and assisting on another, while Jaramillo had a goal and two assists.
Even with mass substitutions, Cerritos was scoring goals in bunches, with several of them coming just a few minutes apart. Five different times in the second half, the Falcons scored a pair of goals in a little over a minute.
When the dust had settled, Jaramillo had a 10-point game (two goals, six assists), with freshman Natalie deLeon (St. Joseph's HS) producing three goals and three assists. Whitmore finished with three goals, and along with Jaramillo and deLeon, three other players had two-goal games and included Lopez, freshman Jamie Peters (Bishop Amat HS), and freshman Whitney Strickland (El Modena HS). Whitmore and freshman Leslie Walker (Long Beach Poly HS) each assisted on a pair of goals, with 13 different players playing a role in at least one goal.
