Last year, the Cerritos College women's soccer team was riding a 37-game unbeaten streak as they opened South Coast Conference play at East Los Angeles College. A 1-0 setback on the old, slick, small football field ended that streak, as the Falcons went on to win their third straight CCCAA State Championship. On Tuesday, the team returned to that same field with a 29-match unbeaten streak (27-0-2), as they squared off against the Huskies. This time, Cerritos was able to get a second half goal to post a 1-0 victory to extend their unbeaten streak to 30 games.

It was a scoreless game in the second half until a bounce finally went the way of the Falcons (10-0-2, 5-0-0). In the 63rd minute, a corner kick by freshman Leslie Walker (Long Beach Poly HS) into the 6-yard box bounced around a few times on the hard surface. The ball finally landed close enough on a bounce to freshman Jamie Peters (Bishop Amat HS), who headed the ball into the net for what turned out to be the lone goal of the game. It was the fifth goal of the season for Peters.

Cerritos was limited to just four shots on net, with Peters collecting three of them. On the other side of the field, freshman goalie Ruby Nichols (Bishop Amat HS) posted four saves to record her fourth shutout in the last five games and fifth of the season.

The team will travel to El Camino College on Friday for a 4:00 p.m. match.
