The duo of freshmen Amber Whitmore (Los Alamitos HS) and Carolina Jaramillo (Cetis 58, Tijuana HS) each scored a pair a goals, as the Cerritos College women's soccer defeated Pasadena City College, 4-0 on Tuesday. The South Coast Conference win by the Falcons (15-0-3, 10-0-1) was their first after the latest rankings put the team in the #1 spot both nationally and in the state. The team, unbeaten in their last 36 games (33-0-3), will host East Los Angeles College at 3:00 p.m. on Friday in another conference match.

Whitmore scored her two goals in the first half, while Jaramillo picked up her two tallies in the second half. The Falcons took a 2-0 lead in a span of 2:31 when freshman Adriana Velasquez (Long Beach Jordan HS) sent a lead pass to Whitmore, who went in on a breakaway and scored past goalkeeper Natalie Martin in the 14th minute. It was the same type of play that led to the second goal, as freshman Jamie Peters (Bishop Amat HS) was able to feed a pass to Whitmore wide open in the 18-yard box, and she scored her 12th goal of the season from five yards out.

The Cerritos defense did a great job of holding the Lancers (6-10-2, 4-5-2) at bay, as they limited them to just one shot on goal and ended their six-match unbeaten streak. They held them without a shot in the first half, with freshman Ruby Nichols (Bishop Amat HS) coming up with the lone save. By contrast, the Falcons took 21 shots, with 12 of them on net.

In the second half, a couple of nice passes led to a tap-in goal by Jaramillo in the 79th minute. Freshman Natalie deLeon (St. Joseph HS) sent a crossing pass near the goalline to Whitmore, who quickly misdirected the ball to Jaramillo for the tally. Her 12th goal of the year came in the 87th minute when she lined up and scored from 20 yards out after receiving a pass from freshman Graciela Lopez (Downey HS).
