For the ninth game in a row, and 11th time this season, the Cerritos College women's soccer team shut out their opponent. The Falcons, (12-0-0), ranked #1 in the nation and state, defeated host Mt. San Antonio College, 4-0 in a South Coast Conference crossover game on Friday. The team will travel to Chaffey College (8-1-2) on Tuesday for a 2:00 p.m. crossover match.
Through the first 45 minutes, Cerritos held a close 1-0 advantage. But, coming out in the second half, the Falcons would score three times within the first six minutes to take a commanding 4-0 lead. With their stellar defense and ball-control offense, sophomore goalkeeper Deisy Rodriguez (Katella HS) was require to make just two saves in the match. She has yet to allow a goal all year, while the team has outscored their opponents, 68-1 through their 12 games.
Looking for offensive production from more players, the Falcons found that in sophomore Gisselle Jimenez (Long Beach Millikan HS), who scored the first two goals of the second half and assisted on the third. A little over one minute into the second half, sophomore Sydney Carr (El Modena HS/UC Irvine) dribbled the ball down the left side of the field and spotted Jimenez, who chipped the one-timer into the far post for her second goal of the season.
Jimenez added to her goal total four minutes later when sophomore defender Brianna Yepez (Paramount HS) took control of the ball at midfield, where she fed a pass through the Mountie (4-8-0) defense. Now faced with a breakaway, Jimenez was able to clip the ball under the diving arms of the Mt. SAC goalkeeper. Not more than a minute later, it was Jimenez who was able to return the favor, as her pass was right in stride with sophomore Serena Camacho (Los Osos HS/UC Irvine), who poked the ball into the net for her 17th tally of the year.
Carr opened the scoring in the first half with her state-leading 23rd goal of the season, with freshman Valeria Corrilo (Dominguez HS) collecting her seventh assist on the year.
