After a season where the Cerritos College women's soccer team went unbeaten, four more of their sophomores have signed with four-year schools. Although they didn't win the CCCAA State Championship, the Falcons have seen seven of their 10 sophomores signed to play at the next level. The latest group to sign include Serena Camacho (Cal State Northridge) and Deisy Rodriguez (University of Jamestown (ND) University), while the duo of Brianna Yepez and Gisselle Jimenez have both signed with Briar Cliff (IA) University. They join the trio of Sydney Carr (Seattle University), Jennifer Lopez (Delta State (MS) University) and Mayela Medina (Cal State Dominguez Hills).
Camacho, a bounceback from UC Irvine, finished second in the state in points (91), goals (33), and assists (25), with Carr leading the team and state in the first two categories. She was named 1st Team All-South Coast Conference South Division. Twice during the season, Camacho recorded nine-game goal scoring streaks, which included a season-high five goals against Compton College, while she had a 10-point game (three goals, four assists) against El Camino College. She also registered nine multiple-goal games and went 4-for-5 on penalty shots. This past season, the Matadors went 6-9-1 on the year, while the concluded the season dropping their last four matches. They lose four midfielders to graduation, with Camacho looking to add some instant offense on a team that scored just 16 goals all season.
The best player last season at keeping the opposing team from scoring, Rodriguez allowed just one goal all season and went 22-0-1 with an astonishing 0.04 goals against average. She was named 2nd Team All-American and set a school record for most shutouts in a season (22). A two-time 1st Team All-South Coast Conference South Division selection, Rodriguez concluded her Falcon career with a 40-1-2 record and 35 shutouts. The Jimmies went 11-5-3 on the year and were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Great Plains Athletic Conference on penalty kicks by Briar Cliff University. Both goalkeepers were seniors last year, so Rodriguez will be competing for a starting position.
Joining the team that defeated Jameston University, Yepez and Jimenez will be joining a Chargers team that went 9-9-2 on the year and lost in the semifinals of the GPAC Tournament. Yepez, who was named 2nd Team All-American, 1st Team All-State and 1st Team All-Region as a freshman, was also the conference's two-time Defensive Player of the Year. Yepez will be joining her cousin, Ashley Yepez, who will be a senior with the Chargers next season. She was instrumental in the Falcons going unbeaten this past season and 42-2-3 in the last two seasons. Yepez accounted for two goals and nine assists from her defensive position as a sophomore, including a trio of two-assist games. As for Jimenez, she had five goals and four assists as a sophomore, which included two goals and an assist against both Mt. San Antonio College and Long Beach City College.
